In a single day, Job lost his wealth, his servants, and his ten children. The Bible describes how “the fire of God fell from heaven and burned up the sheep and the servants, and consumed them” (Job 1:16 NKJV). Soon after, Job was afflicted with painful boils from head to toe.
Job’s suffering was immense:
- He lost his livelihood and financial security
- His entire family was tragically taken from him
- His health deteriorated rapidly, leaving him in agony
Through it all, “Job did not sin nor charge God with wrong” (Job 1:22 NKJV). His steadfast faith during such devastation is truly inspiring.

Job’s faith was rewarded in the end. “The Lord restored Job’s losses when he prayed for his friends. Indeed the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before” (Job 42:10 NKJV). God blessed Job abundantly, giving him double what he had lost and a long, fulfilling life.

In Psalm 57, David cries out, “Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, Until these calamities have passed by” (Psalm 57:1, NKJV).

Esther declared a three-day fast for all the Jews, saying, “My maids and I will fast likewise. And so I will go to the king, which is against the law; and if I perish, I perish!” (Esther 4:16, NKJV). Her faith gave her the courage to risk her life for her people.
Courageously Exposing Haman’s Evil Plot
After fasting and praying, Esther approached the king and invited him and Haman, the king’s advisor who had plotted against the Jews, to a banquet. At the second banquet, Esther revealed her Jewish identity and exposed Haman’s evil plan.
She pleaded with the king, saying, “For we have been sold, my people and I, to be destroyed, to be killed, and to be annihilated” (Esther 7:4, NKJV). The king, outraged by Haman’s plot, ordered Haman to be hanged on the gallows he had prepared for Mordecai, Esther’s cousin.

He was beaten and put in stocks by Pashhur the priest (Jeremiah 20:2) and later imprisoned in a cistern by King Zedekiah’s officials (Jeremiah 38:6). Through it all, Jeremiah remained steadfast in his mission, trusting in God’s protection and provision.
