Bible Verses About Grace – God’s Amazing Grace

When I first gave my life to Jesus I was amazed and totally blown away by the grace of God. I would just weep when I would read any of the Bible verses about grace. However it did not take long for me to get caught up in the typical bait and switch that happens in most churches when to come to the understanding of grace. Most churches and most Christians for that matter start out knowing that it is grace alone that saves and keeps a person, but soon after hearing all the sermons and words of advice about the Christian lifestyle, they start to operate under a performance mentality focusing on good works and pleasing God. The word “grace” in the original Greek language is “charis” which means undeserved favor or unmerited pleasure. We have already pleased God because of grace. There is no more “having to do” in order to please God. It is the finished work of Christ on the cross. So I hope to refresh your memories and to encourage your hearts by posting these Bible verses about grace.

21 Amazing Verses On Grace.

Acts 13:43

Many Jews and devout converts to Judaism followed Paul and Barnabas, and the two men urged them to continue to rely on the grace of God.

Acts 14:3

But the apostles stayed there a long time, preaching boldly about the grace of the Lord. And the Lord proved their message was true by giving them power to do miraculous signs and wonders.

Acts 15:11

We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus.”

Acts 20:24

But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.

Acts 20:32

“And now I entrust you to God and the message of his grace that is able to build you up and give you an inheritance with all those he has set apart for himself.

Romans 5:14-16

14 Still, everyone died—from the time of Adam to the time of Moses—even those who did not disobey an explicit commandment of God, as Adam did. Now Adam is a symbol, a representation of Christ, who was yet to come. 15 But there is a great difference between Adam’s sin and God’s gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ. 16 And the result of God’s gracious gift is very different from the result of that one man’s sin. For Adam’s sin led to condemnation, but God’s free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins.

Romans 5:20-21

20 God’s law was given so that all people could see how sinful they were. But as people sinned more and more, God’s wonderful grace became more abundant. 21 So just as sin ruled over all people and brought them to death, now God’s wonderful grace rules instead, giving us right standing with God and resulting in eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord

Romans 6:14

Sin is no longer your master, for you no longer live under the requirements of the law. Instead, you live under the freedom of God’s grace.

Romans 11:6

And since it is through God’s kindness, then it is not by their good works. For in that case, God’s grace would not be what it really is—free and undeserved.

2 Corinthians 8:9

You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.

2 Corinthians 12:9

Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.

Galatians 2:21

I do not treat the grace of God as meaningless. For if keeping the law could make us right with God, then there was no need for Christ to die.

Galatians 5:4

For if you are trying to make yourselves right with God by keeping the law, you have been cut off from Christ! You have fallen away from God’s grace.

Ephesians 1:7

He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins.

Ephesians 2:8

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God.

Colossians 1:6

This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God’s wonderful grace.

Titus 3:7

Because of his grace he declared us righteous and gave us confidence that we will inherit eternal life.”

Hebrews 4:16

So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.

Hebrews 12:15

Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.

Hebrews 13:9

So do not be attracted by strange, new ideas. Your strength comes from God’s grace, not from rules about food, which don’t help those who follow them.

2 Peter 3:18

Rather, you must grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. All glory to him, both now and forever! Amen.

bible verses about graceFor years the church has said to sinners to come to Jesus that it is by grace that you are saved, and then once they believe the message and come to Jesus by grace, then all of a sudden the message changes and it is no longer by grace that you live but you live by works. In advertising this is called bait and switch. It is promising one thing then delivering something else. My friends, this should not be so. Either we are saved by grace, and need to live by grace, or there was no need for the sacrifice of Jesus at all! It is only when we daily realize that we need the grace of God and that we must continually live in dependency on the grace of God that we can truly say with the old hymn writer. Amazing grace, how sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me.

I hope that you have been reminded and maybe challenged by these scripture verses about grace that you have once again came under God’s amazing grace for you rather than trying to follow some type of performance mentality religion which has caused you to fall from grace.

Blessings

I wholeheartedly agree with your statements, however, there are also numerous places where we are told ‘by our works we shall be known’. As long as people don’t think that accepting Jesus as their savior means they don’t have to ‘do’ anything different. Someone recently declared to me that they could keep on sinning (blatant sin) and still grow closer to the Lord because ‘that’s what grace is for’. It’s not just one or the other, but both working in tandem.

Hi Katie, and thanks for commenting. You are right, we are known by our works but it is the same way as an apple tree is known for the fruit it produces. It is not that an apple tree is trying to produce apples or has some type of litmus test on how many apples it can produce or the quality of each apple. It just produces an apple because it is an apple tree. We produce works as believers not because we are trying to perform or please God but because if His Spirit has truly regenerated us and lives within us, then we see those works because he has made us into an apple tree.

Your friend who you said is in blatant sin (there is no difference between blatant and hidden sin) is theologically correct but in error in the application of that theology. He can keep on sinning, and grace will cover him even if we don’t like it. It wouldn’t be grace otherwise. However the fact that he is continuing to sin is a result of not growing closer to Jesus. You cannot grow closer to Jesus and continue to grow in sin. One or the other has to go. When you draw closer to Jesus then you become more like Him. When you draw further away then you become more like the world. The apple tree when planted next to the river of life produces abundant fruit, when moved to the desert it may have just a few shriveled up apples.

    • KatieO says:

Permit me to clarify, rather than ‘blatant’, I should have said ‘unrepentant’. ie, “I can continue to sin because Jesus will keep covering my sin with grace”. btw – he’s not a friend :-)

Quick question on another post – regarding defiling bodies. I do understand the premise of not joining the body to that which is unholy, but the statements as written could lead one to believe that it would be OK for Christians to have physical relations outside of marriage as they are joining their bodies to  something/one connected to the Lord. Clarification?

I do appreciate the time and true biblical insights presented on your pages.

    • DukeTaber says:

Katie as to your question of not defiling the temple. I was sticking strictly to the text and context of how it was being used. Those passages are talking about the sexual union but not and how it relates to a specific issue. To then go further than what the specific issue that is being addressed would be the same error that is being used by those that would try to use these passages for their other pet sins. In one passage it is talking about the issue of marriage, the other one the issue of using temple prostitutes. Joining unbelievers or prostitutes is wrong because of the joining of Christ with Satan. These passages are not good texts to prove anything beyond that. So I was not trying to give an impression either way concerning sex outside of marriage other than don’t go messin around with the witchy woman.

    • KatieO says:

As I try to think ahead on issues, I could just see where someone would take what you’ve written and use it as justification for…. you get my drift. Have a BLESSED week!

  3. Beautiful! Thank you!
Sweet, glorious, wondrous is the gift of God’s grace -
With it, not with our own strength, we run the Race.
May we rejoice always that we are pure in God’s sight,
And in response live by the Spirit each day and night!

May God continue to bless you as you faithfully share His Word!
