YouVersion Bible App Hits 50 Million Downloads

Sometimes when I see the technology advances in our world I start to feel my age. It took my kids buying me a cell phone a couple of years ago to upgrade me to a cell phone with a keyboard. I was perfectly happy with my Captain Kirk flip phone. Well even since then the development of technology has screamed along and now people can download apps for their cell phones that can do just about anything. That is the case with the YouVersion Bible App. It is one of the top 10 apps for the iPad and top 50 for the iPhone. Recently it just made a landmark with hitting 50 million downloads. Here is the story from PrNewswire.com

YouVersion Bible app takes the Bible from the Gutenberg Era to the Google Era.

OKLAHOMA CITY, May 10, 2012 /PRNewswire/ – With the Bible App by YouVersion surpassing 50 million installs this week, it is evident that the best-selling book of all time is not only still relevant and applicable, but is adaptable to the 21st century lifestyle. With their mobile device, users can share Scripture with their social circles and access the Bible in many versions and languages anytime, anywhere in the world.

A new webpage, http://now.youversion.com/ on YouVersion.com, tracks users’ daily engagement with the Bible. Up-to-the-minute statistics display usage of the Bible App around the world—reading plans started in New Zealand, Bible chapters listened to in Tunisia, bookmarks created in China, and more.

“At every minute of the day, somewhere in the world, people are using the Bible App to spend time in Scripture,” said Bobby Gruenewald, Innovation Leader at LifeChurch.tv. “Not only are people installing the Bible App in record numbers, they are using it, consistently on a daily basis.”

The Bible App offers 294 versions of the Bible in 144 languages. YouVersion.com launched in September 2007 and the Bible App launched in July 2008. The Bible App allows users to bookmark verses; share Scripture through email, Twitter, and Facebook; journal their thoughts; and more. Since its creation, the YouVersion community has spent more than 22 billion minutes on the Bible App, creating more than 100 million bookmarks, and highlighting more than 80 million verses.

YouVersion and the Bible App were created by a team at LifeChurch.tv in Edmond, Okla., to help increase access and engagement with the Bible. YouVersion is in the top five downloaded apps in the reference category and is the No. 1 downloaded Bible on iTunes. The Bible App has been listed in the all-time top 10 apps for the iPad and the top 50 apps for the iPhone. For more information, visit http://www.youversion.com/press.

Have you downloaded the YouVersion Bible app?

Like I said, my kids had to step up to the plate to get me to upgrade my phone. My current phone is not compatible with extra apps. So you will have to let me know if you have this Bible app on your phone. I am always for technology that promotes the spread of the gospel and people reading the Bible. This Bible app has so many versions and languages it is just amazing. So tell me what you think? Do you like your YouVersion Bible app? How has it worked for you? Leave me a comment!

Blessings
