As I do most weeks, I like to share with all of you the sermons that God puts on my heart for my local congregation at the Vineyard Christian Fellowship of Pine Haven Wyoming. This last Sunday, I felt strongly impressed to share with my congregation about the unfailing love of God.
You see, as much as I have been stirring my flock up concerning the desperate situation that our country and many of our churches are in, the Lord reminded me that the Christian is motivated by love. However, many of us think that our motivation comes from our love of Him and somehow if we just loved Him more we would be better Christians, but the fact is that it is not our lack of love towards Him that is our problem but the fact we really do not understand how much He loves us. So let me take you on a little journey of discovery and hopefully your heart and mind will be illuminated about how unfailing His love for you really is.
Jesus Is The Prime Example Of The Unfailing Love Of God.
John 1:14-18
New Living Translation (NLT)
14 So the Word became human and made his home among us. He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness. And we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only Son. 15 John testified about him when he shouted to the crowds, “This is the one I was talking about when I said, ‘Someone is coming after me who is far greater than I am, for he existed long before me.’” 16 From his abundance we have all received one gracious blessing after another. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but God’s unfailing love and faithfulness came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has ever seen God. But the unique One, who is himself God, is near to the Father’s heart. He has revealed God to us.
As you can see in this passage, Jesus revealed God to us, and part of that revelation was God’s unfailing love. This is so very important. You see, it is easy to believe that Jesus loves the world. It is a general belief that can be had with just mental assent. It is easy to believe that Jesus loves your fellow believers and maybe even your Pastor or Sunday school teacher, because they are seemingly serving Jesus to a greater capacity than yourself in your own estimation. It is much harder to actually believe that Jesus, and since He was revealing the father’s heart of God to us, God himself, loves you personally.
The unfailing love of God is not just for others.
Here is the whole point of the message. Our Heavenly Father loves you and me in a very intimate and personal way. It is not generic. It is not general, like a love for humanity, but it is as personal as it can get. The problem is not His lack of love for you, but your lack of understanding that it applies to you! You see, you know how much you fail. You know what you are like when nobody’s looking and you have a hard time believing that somebody would love you with unfailing love.
I totally understand that. I did not have an image of a father that was a healthy image. When I was 12 years old, my parents got divorced and I breathed a big sigh of relief because my earthly father was abusive. From age 12 to age 16 I tried to numb that pain with any type of recreational drug I could find. It didn’t matter if it was alcohol, pot, speed, or acid, or any combination of the above. I was trying to control my life by controlling the pain with drugs and alcohol.
It wasn’t until God reached down and placed His finger in my heart and gave me a taste of His unfailing love, that those wounds were healed. When I realized how much He loved me and what Jesus did for me personally, then and only then was I able to respond as a sincere believer in Jesus and have the passion for Him in return.
1 John 4:19
We love Him because He first loved us.
So as many of you have been following myself and the great people at my church, take a little journey in contemplating the unfailing love of God for you personally. If you do, then maybe, just as happened this last Sunday, the Holy Spirit will start speaking to your heart as He did the people here and even touched an 80 year old Catholic man who did not know that God loved him but only hoped He did.
Will you allow God to speak to your heart?

That you had a love encounter with the God who loves you with an unfailing love and that you will be totally transformed from the inside out like I was almost 33 years ago and like the man in my congregation was this last Sunday.
Blessings!
Pastor Duke
