According to 3 ambitious southern Christians, it will begin on June 20th in Plymouth, Massachusetts
This nation has been through three large-scale Christian revivals, or “Great Awakenings”- where large numbers of our citizenry refocused their lives upon Christ and His Word. The last true “Awakening” happened between 1850 and 1910, or over 100 years ago. (Some scholars and theologians believe there was a 4th Awakening in the early 1970′s, but most followers do not consider that a true “Great” Awakening.) Given the continual problems in the United States, within a more secular society, are we overdue for another revival?
“Yes,” states Dan Zimmerle, one of the three Christian men who are spearheading the Plymouth efforts. Dan, along with Phil Castillo and Robert Kilmarx, has spent considerable time, effort, and also some personal funds in trying to initiate a new 2013 America returning to God.
Zimmerle and Castillo have a successful radio talk show called One Nation Under God (http://onenationundergodradio.com/), and have teamed up on this mission with Kilmarx, leader of the “Black Robe Regiment” and former head of the Tennessee Tea Party. In two recent interviews with the Great Awakening core, it became apparent that this crew truly feels called by the Holy Spirit to attempt this grand repentance and revival.
“It’s not about us; we are just three simple and regular Christian men. We are not mega-church pastors or big political leaders. We just felt it was our obligation to try to nudge along a movement which will return America to Jesus,” notes Castillo. Adds Zimmerle, “If it (the Plymouth conference) is a success, it will be due to Jesus and Him moving persons to attend and pray and be a part of it. People aren’t going to go there to see or listen to us,”.
“There is no other assurance of recovery for our nation”
The conference itself will last the better part of three days, from Friday to Sunday. It will take place in Memorial Hall, which can house a maximum of 1500 persons. Even if it sells out, will 1500 people attending a revival constitute a “Great Awakening”? “Not really, but its not about the actual numbers,” says Kilmarx. “Its about people’s hearts changing and repenting. And this Plymouth conference is hopefully just the first of many other similar awakenings/ revivals throughout the country,”.
This non-sectarian Christian revival may have a somewhat political/ sociological undertone, but the speakers there will not be advocating for any specific political party or politician. Jesus will be the focus.
Zimmerle made it clear that he hopes for all walks of the Faith to be in attendance: Mainline Protestants, Catholics, “evangelicals”, and non-denominational. “I’d even welcome some atheists and agnostics there- maybe we’ll be lucky enough to get some real conversions!”.
The following mission statements are taken directly from the conference website- http://www.greatawakeningiv.org/
Great Awakening IV is calling believers to turn from all self-will and rebelliousness-wicked ways-that replace the holy, blessed life of God with the carnality and idolatry of self. These few but costly changes prepare for God’s promised responses which America so desperately needs.
Great Awakening IV knows that God is good to His word. Therefore we know that God will hear and recognize this genuine turning back to Him of sinful but repentant believers.
Great Awakening IV knows that God will forgive and cleanse the long standing habitual sins of generations of backslidden believers.
Great Awakening IV knows that with this sincere returning to God, He will fulfill His promise to cleanse and restore this nation.
Apart from this scripturally defined plan, there is no other assurance of recovery for our nation. But in this clearly defined way there is both hope and confidence for the individuals and the society called America.
All three men chose Plymouth, Massachusetts because of its historical significance regarding the true beginning of this nation. They have been in contact with a number of the local Massachusetts pastors and they hope for both a large local AND traveling group to be a part of this revival- which does charge a nominal fee.
This writer believes, as well, that it is time for a Godly shift throughout the country. Maybe “Great Awakening IV” will be a key part of the Holy Spirit working towards an America returning to the ethics and morality that once made it a great nation.
