During every great revival that has happened in Christiandom there has been an increased awareness and understanding of the blood of Christ and it’s importance, and during every time that faith has waned and hearts have grown cold, there has been a diminished emphasis and teaching on the blood of Christ.
When was the last time you heard a message on the importance of the blood of Christ? When was the last time that you sang a song that even talked about the blood of Jesus? It is because of the vacuum that I sense in today’s songs and teachings that I decided to do a post on the importance of the blood of Jesus.
Why Is The Blood Of Christ So Important?
Up until the time of Jesus, the only way that a person could be forgiven was on the day of atonement when they would bring an animal for sacrifice. Now I know that this sounds bloody to today’s society, but 2000 years ago it was not uncommon. Even today animals are sacrificed for us in the name of food. Hamburger and Chicken do not come from the grocery store.
There is power in blood. If you don’t believe me just drain yourself of 4 pints and see what happens to you. You will die! It was the blood sacrifice that was offered to God that cleansed a person from sin for another year. But it was not a long term solution. The blood of bulls and goats could not eternally cleanse us from our sins. That is why something else was needed.
When Jesus willingly went to the cross as an innocent and sinless man, the eternal solution for sin was made. Just as Paul said in Romans 5,
18 Therefore, as through one man’s offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man’s righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. 19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.
Just as sin entered the world through one man, the price for sin was paid by one man. The sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross was that payment.
When we stop teaching and understanding the price that was paid for our salvation, then salvation becomes cheap and worthless. I believe that this is one reason why we have so many Christians that are not strong in their faith and do not stand up for the things of God. I believe that their spiritual growth has been stunted because of their lack of understanding of what Jesus truly did.
Benefits of having the blood of Christ applied to your life.
The number one benefit and the one that we all should be eternally grateful for is the fact that the blood of Christ is what caused us to be forgiven. If it were not for the precious blood of Jesus, we would not be able to stand before God today and have a personal relationship with Him.
In 1 John 1:7 it says,
1 John 1:7
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin.
Not only does it forgive us our sins, but it also cleanses us from the stain of that sin. In other words, it removes the spot that was on our souls because of what we had done. It gives us a true new beginning and fresh start. When the blood of Jesus is applied to your life, then you are made as fresh as a newborn babe or a blanket of fresh snow.
Another thing that the blood of Christ provides is our entrance into the presence of God. When we pray, we are not just praying to the air. We are entering into the presence of God. We are able to boldly go before the throne of grace because of the blood of Christ. You are able to walk up to your heavenly Father and sit on His lap and tell Him everything that is on your heart because of the blood of Jesus. Your enjoyment of the presence of God in your life was bought at with the price of Christ’s sacrifice. In Ephesians chapter 2 it says,
13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ.
So take a moment and thank God for the blood of Jesus and the sacrifice that was made on Calvary’s cross. When the soldier pierced Him in His side and His blood flowed to the ground, it was for you. There truly is power in the blood!
Blessings

I only disagree with one thing you said
WE SHOULD NOT… “take a moment and thank God for the blood of Jesus and the sacrifice that was made on Calvary’s cross”
BUT RATHER as true believers in Christ we should humbly live “EVERY MOMENT” thankful to God for the BLOOD OF JESUS and the sacrifice that was made on Calvary’s Cross!
A recent post to my facebook page…
1 Corinthians 1:18 The Center of all eternity and righteousness and love!
18. For the preaching of the cross [OF CHRIST] is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
Our “center” if you will, is and should always be… and should always look back to… and interpret everything in the light of… the CROSS OF CHRIST!
Let’s forget about everyone else just for a
moment!
Let’s focus on our sin, and our need for salvation!
God sent His son to suffer His wrath on the Cross because God could see no other way to save ME!
God found no hope in MY ability to save myself! NONE!
My sin was so horrific, and so inexcusable, that it cost Christ the Wrath of God on my behalf!
AND AFTER WE ARE SAVED WE FORGET THIS?
And become prideful?
And want to be exalted in our churches?
And want “ourselves” to be seen as something special?
And want people to think that “we” are worthy of attention or praise of men?
IT’S ODD TO ME… That in some sense, we carry around our own “little crosses”, and want people to actually see us (because of our little crosses we now carry as followers of Christ) and our ideas, and our teachings, and our songs, and our understanding, and our “words from the Lord” as a “necessary” means and addition to the Gospel “of Christ” … to save others!
God’s men are not “show men”! How could they be? How could one of God’s children for even one moment think “they” could be, or should be, for any reason… the “center” of any message?
God’s men point to the CROSS OF CHRIST, every time!
What happens if every day, we REMEMBER how “God” truly, and completely, and graciously displayed His GREAT LOVE and mercy that brought “us” (forgetting everyone else) to Him to begin with?
I am absolutely LESS than the LEAST of all the believers I have ever known! NOTHING!
And whether or not in the sight of God Himself, I truly am the least of all those who have ever come to Him by faith will only be known of judgment day.
But this I know… I continually see “myself” as less, and less, and CHRIST as more, and more worthy!
My love for HIM grows because I see who I am, and who HE MUST BE, to have in love, left the glory of Heaven and all eternity, to walk as a man sinless among the sinful of the world, to be rejected, and crucified (suffering the Wrath of His Father) for sins He never committed on “my” behalf… to lay 3 days in a tomb… to rise again! FOR ME! THE HOLY ONE DID THIS!!! FOR ME!
WHY WOULD HE SUFFER THIS FOR ME?
Real LOVE! Is the answer!
How can I but, humble myself, take up my cross, and follow HIM?
Everything is about CHRIST and what He has done on the CROSS.
God help us to ALWAYS keep this as our “center”! For it truly is the center of all eternity, and righteousness, and love!
1 Corinthians 1:18
18 For the preaching of the cross [OF CHRIST] is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.
Yeah you got me there David. A “closing” figure of speech didn’t work huh?
