10 Bible Verses for Evangelism and Witnessing
I found it a hard task to narrow down to ten bible verses for evangelism. Each of these verses I have used in communicating the gospel in a biblical way, the way Jesus did, to those who are lost. This is the law to the proud and grace to the humble approach that is demonstrated every time in scripture. In future posts I will go into this more deeply but you can read on it my other article, How to Evangelize: Lessons From Jesus.
10. Hebrews 9:27
“And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,”
It is important that people understand that there is no second chances after death, no purgatory and no reincarnation.
9. Psalm 14:1
“The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good.”
The atheist may say he does not believe in God but he’s beliefs are immaterial. God will judge everyone whether they believe He exist or not. That is why it is foolish to even think such a thing as His non-existence.
8. Mathew 7:21
“Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.”
Just because someone claims to be a Christian does not make it so. Case in point is that Mormons have been pushing the claim they are Christians. If you do not believe in the Jesus of the bible then you have made an idol to yourself.
7. 1 John 3:15
“Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.”
God does not just look at our outward action but the inward heart. He sees hate equal to murder. This removes the argument, “Well I never killed anyone.” If you have ever hated you are a murderer at heart.
6. Mathew 5:27-28
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ 28 But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
Just like we saw before with hatred, God takes His law very seriously. He even sees looking with lust as adultery of the heart.
5. Revelations 21:8
“But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
Really, just telling one lie will send me to hell? The answer from scripture is yes. It is because of whose law we broke. A crime against the eternal heavenly King of the universe demands an eternal punishment. Does it concern you that if you died today that you could spend eternity in hell? It should.
4. Romans 6:23
“For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
While we deserve death in hell for our sins against God, He provided a way to pardon us from our justified punishment.
3. John 14:6
“Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.”
This pardon is only available in Christ Jesus. There is no other path that leads to heaven.
2. Isaiah 53:5
“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, And by His stripes we are healed.”
A legal transaction took place on the cross. He took the punishment that belongs to you so that your case may be dismissed. However, not everyone goes free just because Jesus died.
1. Ephesians 2:8,9 & Luke 13:3
“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
“I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish.”
Christ demands us to respond to this good news in repentance and faith. We cannot earn a ticket to heaven by being better or cleaning up our lives. We must agree with Him our punishment is just and turn away from our ways and follow after Christ. Trust in Jesus to save you and read your Bible and obey what it says.
I knew I couldn’t do it in just ten bible verses.
