The Top Christian Social Networking Sites For 2013
Many Christians have gotten a little fed up with Facebook. Whether they are finding that their posts mysteriously disappear, or are not shared with all of their friends due to Facebook's decision to censor religious speech, (http://www.christianpost.com/news/facebook-google-apple-censoring-religious-speech-55736/) or they are tired of posts that use inappropriate pictures or language, or they just want a place where they can go to get uplifted and encouraged, Christians have been looking for alternatives to Facebook. It was because of this need that Taber's Truths decided to enter the Christian social networking niche and launch Christian Faithbook. However, since I have always had a big tent philosophy towards other Christians and Christian websites, I wanted to provide you with a list of the best Christian Social Networking sites for 2013. I have used a 3 point criteria for this list. I have made the decision on who to include based on the number of members, number of features, and w[more]
The Grinch-like Atheists Who Stole Christmas
I just caught wind of a story that is brewing in Santa Monica Ca. It seems that a group of atheists led by a man named Damon Vix, have stolen from all the fine believing citizen's of Santa Monica, the nativity scenes that have graced the Santa Monica Palisades Park.  It seems that the Grinch-like atheists decided to change their tactics from court battles and peaceful protest, to one of crowding out the nativity scenes. 2 years ago there were 3 groups that asked the city for spots in Palisades Park for holiday displays, last year there were 13 groups asking for spots, 10 of whom were recruited by Damon Vix and the atheists to display such homages to things like the great flying spaghetti monster. Needless to say, many of the city residents did not appreciate these displays of cynicism and ridicule and expressed that displeasure with vandalism. Which brings us to this years story, because of the vandalism and the desire of the city not to get embroiled in a religious discrimination sui[more]
Little did the Obama Administration figure that their idea of giving average citizens a voice in government would turn out like this when they started their "We the People" section of the White House website. Citizens of 49 states have started petitions requesting that the Obama Administration allow them to peaceably secede from the United States. I first heard about this yesterday but didn't think a lot about it. I didn't realize that the Obama Administration has promised to address any petition that gets over 25,000 signatures. Already the State of Texas has over 80,000 This whole backlash from middle America on the policies our Federal Government has been shoving down our throats is sure to cause Washington to take notice. It better! Here is a list of the states and their current signature count. The link tied to the state is the link you can go to in order to sign the petition. Forgive me for not having them in alphabetical order but I am pulling them off the White House w[more]
One of the things I like to do on this website is to put the spotlight on what is happening to our brothers and sisters in Christ around the world. We Americans and others in the western world have too much of a myopic view of what is happening in Christianity. Today I want to introduce you to Shi Weihan. His story is an amazing testimony of strength and courage in the face of horrible oppression and opposition in Communist China. Shi Weihan: A Story of the Persecuted Faithful. Posted on Oct 25, 2012 | by John Evans Weihan's journey into the ranks of the persecuted faithful began decades ago with no faith at all. "Growing up in a communist country, I didn't believe in God in that time," Weihan said over the course of several interviews with Baptist Press in October. "I thought it was like a story, not true." In 1990, a Chinese man named Joshua -- the matchmaker who brought Weihan and his wife Zhang Jing together -- gave a Bible to each of them. "He told me, 'This book is very g[more]
I just caught wind of this this morning. A gunman has shot and killed a man leading a prayer meeting at Creflo Dollar's World Changers Church yesterday. According to initial reports, the gunman walked in dressed in a suit, and opened fire yesterday morning on a man who was leading a prayer meeting. Here is a video of the initial report. News Video of World Changers Church shooting. Later it turns out, police named the suspect as 52 yr old Floyd Palmer. Palmer is a former employee at World Changers Church as a maintenance man. He walked up to Greg McDowell, age 39, and shot him at point blank range. There were about 25 people at the prayer meeting and immediately those attending recognized the shooter. Here is another video of the incident. Police Identify Gunman as former Employee of World Changers Church A few hours later, Palmer was apprehended at a Macy's department store at a mall in the Buckhead area of Atlanta. We have an epidemic in our country. It is an epidemic of ignorance. Jersey City New Jersey has became the latest city to show signs that they have caught this disease. Christian's Evangelizing Called "Inciting Residents" by Jersey City Police Chief I came across this story on the website NJ.com. It is the story of how members of a church from the suburbs of Jersey City, Wayne NJ, were ticketed for practicing their constitutionally protected 1st amendment rights. The incident took place in Journal Square over the weekend. According to Tom Comey, ( I can't help but think his last name should be spelled Commie.) "The individuals issued summonses in this matter traveled to Jersey City from various parts of New Jersey to spread their message and incite many of our residents," He further added, which sounds like a disclaimer to me, "We respect and defend the rights of any individuals to gather and protest as long as it is done within the confines of the law," Who were these horrible [more]

Lifeway Christian Resources has informed Rachel Held Evans that her new book entitled " A Year of Biblical Womanhood" and subtitled "How a Liberated Woman Found Herself Sitting On a Roof, Covering Her Head, and Calling Her Husband Master", will not be stocked at Lifeway Christian Bookstores. I came across this story of all places, on a blog called the friendly atheist. In his story, he was using this story to try to prove that Christians are intolerant. So I started digging deeper into this story before posting it on this blog. As most of you know, I try to take a big tent policy on this website. We have contributing authors from many different backgrounds. I also like to pride myself in helping Christian bloggers of all stripes to accomplish the will of God in their lives and with their blogs. This time I am going to have to take exception to what Rachel Held Evans has and is doing and put all the facts on the table. The Problem With Rachel Held Evan's Book. Rachel is an admitt[more]
It wasn't until one lady who wasn't afraid to stand up against city hall and stand up for her religious liberties, that the City of Phoenix decided to drop a ban against Christians handing out bottles of water at public events. As I have covered many times on this website, city and town councils are violating the religious liberties of people all across our nation, the City of Phoenix being a major offender in this issue as was evidenced by what happened to Michael Salman. One Woman Refuses To Bow To Tyranny Dana Crow-Smith was the courageous lady that did not bow her knee to the edicts of tyranny. The lady was trying to follow the teachings of Jesus by doing small acts of kindness and giving away bottles of water to people at the "First Friday" festival when the temperatures were up to 112 degrees. She was ordered to stop by a City Inspector called a "Neighborhood Preservation Inspector", that told her she was required to get a vendor's permit. This not only violated her f[more]
The momentum is growing among Christian businesses, religious institutions and other Christian organizations in suing the federal government over the abortion pill mandate that is part of Obamacare. The latest to join the legal fray is Tyndale House Publishers. Just a few days ago Biola University also announced they were going to sue the federal government over this requirement. Who is Tyndale House Publishers and Why are They Suing The Federal Government? Tyndale House's suit was filed at U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in a filing labeled Tyndale House Publishers v. Sebelius.  Tyndale House is one of the largest privately owned Christian publishers of books and Bibles in the nation. The law group Alliance Defending Freedom is representing Tyndale house along with Biola University, Grace College and Seminary, Geneva College, The Seneca Hardwood Lumber Company, Louisiana College, and Hercules Industries who are all involved in federal lawsuits over this abort[more]
If you are like me, you have heard more than once that the divorce rate among Christians is basically the same as non-Christians. Well a new study has came out that shows that this is not necessarily true. It all depends on how you define who is a Christian. If you lump together everyone who claims to be Christian, whether practicing or not, then they are right. There is no difference statistically between Christians and non-Christians. However if you dig a little deeper into the statistics then you find that those that are "practicing conservative Christians" the divorce rate is markedly lower. Study Shows Divorce Rate 35% Lower For Practicing Conservative Christians. Professor Bradley Wright, a sociologist at the University of Connecticut, did a deeper study of people of faith and if there was any correlation between the amount that they practiced their faith and the divorce rate of these people. He found that regardless if they were conservative Evangelical Christians, Roman Catho[more]
3 Christian bloggers were sentenced yesterday to 12, 10, and 4 years in prison respectively. What was their crime you may ask? They were charged with spreading anti-government propaganda. They were the founding members of what they called the "Free Journalists Club" which was not officially recognized by the government. Nguyen Van Hai, Marie Ta Phong Tan, and Phan Thanh Hai along with 18 other people were reportedly taken into custody according to local bloggers. Dang Thi Kim Lieung, mother of Marie Ta Phong Tan, self-immolated and died on July 30 in protest over her daughter’s continued detention. It seems like the government was concerned about the political fallout of this trial and sentence that they felt the need to surround the courthouse with 400 security officials that kept the crowds away and confiscated camera's and cell phones. The U.S. Embassy criticized the sentencing of these Christian bloggers, although the Obama administration is doing nothing about religi[more]
Is America Becoming Intolerant Towards Religion?
Our country was primarily founded by Protestants that were fleeing religious persecution and intolerance towards their faith. The Pilgrims, Quakers, Mennonites, Moravians, and Baptists all fled Europe for the promise to practice their faith in peace in America. Today we do not live in the same America. I feel like I have been shouting in the wind on this website about the rise of intolerance towards religion and Christians in this country. It almost seems like the people of this country are like proverbial frogs in a kettle while the heat is being turned up. I have done stories about people like Michael Salman who was imprisoned over zoning laws, and Holly Springs Miss banning churches from the downtown area, and most recently the story of the Christians who were arrested for preaching on Bourbon street in New Orleans. Do you know what type of comments I get on those stories? I get a bunch of people who try to justify the government violation of our first amendment rights to fre[more]
Grand Canyon University was the recipient of a 20 million dollar gift from Steve Green, owner of the hobby retail chain called Hobby Lobby. In a story I covered a couple of months ago, Steve Green made it public that he wanted to give D.L. Moody's Northfield Seminary in Northfield MA. away for free to a ministry that could prove they could maintain and use it according to D.L. Moody's original vision. Why Did Grand Canyon University Receive This Gift? Over 100 different organizations expressed interest in the Northfield campus. These organizations ranged from culinary schools, TV ministries (of course! LOL) and many others. It was eventually narrowed down to either Grand Canyon University and the North American Missions Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. After looking at what it takes to maintain and run the Northfield seminary, including 1 million dollars in utility costs, the Missions Board of the Southern Baptist Convention decided that it was just not feasible to use [more]
The contemporary Christian group Casting Crowns has announced that they have received notification from RIAA that their debut album by the same name "Casting Crowns" has reached double platinum status. They enter a group of only 8 other Christian artists who have earned this high distinction. Others in this group include P.O.D, Switchfoot and Mercy Me. Casting Crowns has dominated Billboards top selling contemporary Christian groups since 2007 This news comes on the heels of a very successful tour called the "come to the well" tour and after being named Billboard's top Christian group and top Christian album "come to the well" in 2012. Denzel Washington has always been one of my favorite Hollywood actors. I was especially impressed with his role in the movie called "The book of Eli". (I do not recommend this movie for children.) What I did not realize was Denzel Washington's faith in Jesus. Recently Denzel and his wife Paulette was interviewed by Tracy Smith on CBS Sunday Morning. In that interview both he and his wife talk about their role that they played on the latest audio Bible called "The Bible Experience". Although neither of them became deep in their theology in the interview, it was apparent that Paulette Washington was a strong supporter of the traditional family. Here is that interview on CBS. Video of Denzel and Paulette Washington on CBS Sunday Morning This interview caused me to dig a little deeper into what would motivate Denzel Washington and his wife to be so excited about this project and why they didn't mind being associated with a project that was outside of the Hollywood mainstream. This is a follow up to a story I covered about a month ago. Pastor Jack Schaap, the former Pastor of the Hammond Indiana First Baptist Church plead guilty yesterday to having sex with a minor and transporting a minor over state lines for the purpose of having sex with her. This is both a sad story to cover and one that should be a serious wake up call to the church in how they choose their leaders and why church leaders fall. Here is a video broadcast of plea agreement from Channel 2 News in Chicago   We still need to keep praying for the girl, her family, our brothers and sisters at First Baptist Church Hammond Indiana, and the family members of Jack Schaap It is part of human nature to revel in the failure of someone famous or big. However that is not a good part of our human nature, so I implore all of you to take a moment and just be thankful for His grace towards you because as much as this is a horrible sin and has damaged many people, we all have sinned and have fallen[more]
As I reported a few days ago, the Christian owned craft store Hobby Lobby has came under attack from Pro Abortion Activists because of their opposition to the federal mandate in Obamacare that requires businesses to provide what is commonly called the "morning after pill. This pill essentially prevents a fertilized egg to implant itself on the uterine wall thus aborting the spark of life. Although they have received support from Pro Life advocates, they are facing boycotts from these Pro Abortion groups. So once again we need to rise up and support those that are standing up for religious liberties in this country. Sources citing the Hobby Lobby Boycott The Examiner reports that these groups are organizing a boycott and making crazy claims that Hobby Lobby wants to deny basic health care and if you can believe it, "cancer treatments" to it's employees. Once again we see these groups engaging in dishonest rhetoric rather than addressing the issues. According to the Examiner the[more]
Once again we see the condition of the heart of our cities and nation in their attempts to violate our religious and civil rights. This time the shame goes to the city of New Orleans. In a story I found on Christian News Network, a Pastor and five ministry team members were arrested Friday night Sept. 15th while preaching and passing out tracts on New Orlean's infamous Bourbon street. This street is where Mardi Gras and the Decadence festival are held. It is filled with bars and strip joints. What better place to reach hurting people with the gospel of Jesus? Yet not so according to the “Aggressive Solicitation” ordinance passed by the city of New Orleans, which seems to think that if they do not make it against any one group of people then they have the right to violate the first amendment civil and religious rights of people. Here are some excerpts from the story. Christian Arrested for Preaching By: Heather Clark A pastor and five members of his ministry team were ar[more]
Americans United for the Separation of Church and State have been up to their same old tricks again but this time it is seeming to backfire in their faces. Earlier they threatened the Connellsville Pa school district with a lawsuit over a monument of the 10 commandments at the school. This monument was donated to the school in the 1950's and has stood there as a reminder to morality for over half a century. In a story I found on CBS Channel 2 in Pittsburgh the school district was not going to get into a legal battle at first until the community rose up in support of the monument. I have no clue as to whether or not they got the idea from this website or not, but I first proposed this idea on August 8th in my article covering Atheists trying to remove a cross in small town America only this time instead of planting crosses where the person suing can see daily, the towns people are planting 10 commandments in all of their yards! Kudo's to the people of Connellsville Pa! Here are som[more]
