You know, I find it interesting at times where I find Christian news. This story comes from a Turkish Newspaper but it is about Christians in South Korea. It seems that one of our less than wholesome exports is coming to South Korea to give a concert and promote a lifestyle that clearly is not wanted in South Korea. Lady Gaga is kicking off her “Born This Way” tour. You know, I really have to roll my eyes at some of the things that pop stars do these days. Personally, I do not want to know what people do in their bedrooms and I am tired of people flaunting their sexual choices like a pair of dirty shorts. So I don’t blame the South Korean Christians for praying against this type of thing being exported into their country. In fact I wish that the church in America was not so desensitized to all of this that they would once again rise up and pray against this type of thing here. Here is part of the story from the Turkish Press.
S. Korean Christian protest against Lady Gaga’s promotion of homosexuality.
Scores of conservative South Korean Christians will pray together on Sunday against Lady Gaga’s Seoul concert, organisers said, accusing the US pop star of advocating homosexuality and pornography. The pop diva arrived in South Korea on Friday, a week before her Seoul performance which kicks off her “Born This Way Ball Global Tour.”
About 300 Protestant church members will gather in downtown Seoul Sunday night to hold a group prayer against the concert in the capital, Kang Ju-Hyun, a prayer organiser told AFP. ”We will pray to God that the concert will not be realized so that homosexuality and pornography will not spread around the country,” he said. Kang, who leads a group called Alliance for Sound Culture In Sexuality, said other major church groups would join his campaign by holding protests around the Seoul headquarters of Hyundai Card, the concert organizer.
South Koreans aged under 18 have been banned from the much-anticipated concert after it was rated unsuitable for younger audiences. The show had an initial age rating of 12 and older but the Korea Media Rating Board — a state watchdog — adjusted it upwards. Lady Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, is famous for the hit songs “Bad Romance” and “Poker Face,” and has become a strident voice for gay rights and anti-bullying campaigns.
South Korea has East Asia’s largest Christian community after the Philippines, with about 8.6 million Protestants and 5.1 million Catholics. About 10 million South Koreans are Buddhists.
God Bless the South Koreans!
As much as I absolutely hate the method that certain churches use when protesting against issues like homosexuality, I totally support what the South Korean Christians are doing in their protest. I absolutely support prayer! I don’t like tactics that are used by those similar to the Westboro Baptist Church, because they are coming across hateful. However I do not think prayer can every come across hateful. So God Bless the South Korean Christians who are going down and praying and asking God to stop the show. Not every time must the show go on! Sometimes it is better if it is stopped and in this case, I am just embarrassed to be associated with such a side show as this coming from America.
What do you think? Are the South Korean Christians handling this in the right manner? Do you think it is good for people to flaunt their sexual orientation? Have you had enough yet? Leave me a comment and let’s get the discussion rolling!
Blessings

These south Koreans Christians prayed God to crash Lady Gaga down and that is so christian about it..right? I know how hypocrite Christians are and this is a proof of it. Christianity is a threat to Humanity .A bronze age morals and a middle eastern desert superstation.
I will let your comment stand Peter as just one more example of anti-religious bigotry.

I am the Korean christian. If the believers who know the spirit of God will not join this spiritual warfare in Korea and the Nations, God will ask later “that new Goliath lady gaga shout to the world saying with satan’s heart but where is David?”. We have to think about it. If USA or Europe christian rised up against homosexuality and porn 20 years ago, The world was not like this. We have to balance with the presence of God and the spiritual warfare.Freedom is not free!
I am all with you Spark. Some may not understand or have their eyes blinded, but we must stand against this stuff. I am in solidarity with you and am praying alongside of you.
God bless you for standing up!

I don’t think they’re going about it the right way at all. Praying for God to “stop” the show is akin to praying for rain so the crops don’t die during a drought. You and I know that God doesn’t work that way. He may listen and provide the conditions for the show to be canceled, but more likely He will allow it to go on and use it as an opportunity for His people to lean on Him more and perhaps witness to non-believers. That’s what I think their approach should be more focused on. Just my two cents.
Thanks Stefan. I do appreciate your comment. I think there is a right way to exercise free speech and a wrong way. In understanding the Korean culture, confrontation is not a culturally appropriate response. So quietly praying and asking for God to stop the show I don’t see as a bad response. Just as I pray daily to stop the erosion of our own Christian liberties in this country and for God to stop the plans of those that would erode them. Just my own 2 cents.
