Yet another wonderful aspect about homeschooling is the ability to change-up teaching methods in order to give your children a well rounded learning experience. Lapbooking is a great way to incorporate fun that aids in information retention.

What is a lapbook?
In a nutshell, a lapbook is a hands-on learning tool that enables each child to recount what they’ve learned about a particular subject in a creative style with written narration as they go. Each fact is noted on a creative paper cut-out that will be affixed to a specially assembled file folder. When finished, the student has a permanent record of their work.
Lapbooks come in every subject imaginable: Bible, History, Science, Literature, Math…you name it! They also come in a variety of ages/grades from pre-school up to high school. There area also several good lapbooking companies out there. I can personally recommend In the Hands of a Child, A Journey through Learning and Knowledge Box Central.
A Lapbook guide contains specific information on the subject studied plus unique cut-outs that are to be folded and written on. Don’t worry, instructions are included and are easy enough to understand – even for the most artistically challenged!
