This morning I am continuing my series on Godly Quotes by Godly People. If you haven’t read Part 1 I would encourage you to do so. I am going through these quotes by alphabetical order of the authors name. I hope you have enjoyed these quotes as much as I have. They have reminded me of how much I need to keep going deeper in Jesus.
As I said in the first part of this series, I am not worried as much about the theological position of the person being quoted as much as the spiritual fruit that was shown by their lives. In the end, I think we are all going to be a little surprised at how much our own theology was not quite right, and how many people we disagreed with, still made it to heaven, because the litmus test of getting to heaven is not correct theology, but correct relationship with Jesus.
On to the Godly Quotes by Godly People!
Most people do not realize that there was a paid chaplain in Congress even before the Revolutionary War ended. Francis Schaeffer
“Art is a reflection of God’s creativity, an evidence that we are made in the image of God.” Francis Schaeffer
“I have found that there are three stages in every great work of God; first, it is impossible, then it is difficult, then it is done.” Hudson Taylor
“God’s work done in God’s way will never lack God’s supplies.” Hudson Taylor
“He makes His ministers a flame of fire. Am I ignitible? God deliver me from the dread asbestos of ‘other things.’ Saturate me with the oil of the Spirit that I may be aflame. But flame is transient, often short lived. Canst thou bear this, my soul – short life? … Make me thy fuel, Flame of God.” Jim Elliot
“What good are Greek, commentaries, insight, gift, and all the rest, if there is no heart for Christ?” Jim Elliot
Christians are like the several flowers in a garden that have each of them the dew of Heaven, which, being shaken with the wind, they let fall at each other’s roots, whereby they are jointly nourished, and become nourishers of each other. John Bunyan
“Since no man is excluded from calling upon God the gate of salvation is open to all. There is nothing else to hinder us from entering, but our own unbelief.” John Calvin
“They who prematurely put themselves forward to root out whatever is displeasing to them overthrow the judgment of God and rashly intrude upon the office of angels.” John Calvin
“Beware you are not swallowed up in books! An ounce of love is worth a pound of knowledge.” John Wesley
“A man with God is always in the majority.” John Knox
Preach abroad. It is the cooping yourselves up in rooms that has dampened the work of God, which never was and never will be carried out to any purpose without going into the highways and hedges and compelling men and women to come in. Johnathan Edwards
If your heart takes more pleasure in reading novels, or watching TV, or going to the movies, or talking to friends, rather than just sitting alone with God and embracing Him, sharing His cares and His burdens, weeping and rejoicing with Him, then how are you going to handle forever and ever in His presence…? You’d be bored to tears in heaven, if you’re not ecstatic about God now! Keith Green
Allowing God to challenge you with godly sayings like these.
I hope you have been both encouraged and challenged today from these godly quotes from godly people. I know I have. The depth and the understanding they have of the heart and purposes of God stand tall in the annuls of time. May God raise us up to be men and women of faith that have such a relationship with Christ, that 400 years later, people quote us to encourage others in their walk of faith.
Blessings
Pastor Duke

Some great quotes! I like it when you said: "the litmus test of getting to heaven is not correct theology, but correct relationship with Jesus." I agree!
