Are we fearfully and wonderfully made? Many of us as we go through life, encounter a few bumps and bruises along the way along with the occasional train wreck thrown in for good measure. We are faced with our frailties and failures every morning as we look in the mirror. Many times because of these things we forget that we are fearfully and wonderfully made and that God does not make mistakes nor does He make junk. In Psalm 139:14 David sings of the fact that He was fearfully and wonderfully made by God. He acknowledges that God is the one who had designed him and that God’s works are marvelous.
You Are Fearfully and Wonderfully Made. You Are Created Unique
There is no one just like you and God did that on purpose. He is not looking for us to become a carbon copy of someone else or some ideal that someone else came up for us. His purposes and plans for your life are as unique as the snowflakes that are about to fall from the sky. Recently I was reminded that the bumps and bruises and train wrecks in our life have been things that have built that uniqueness in our lives. I met a man who had a very similar background as myself with the exception of never having the tragedy of divorce in his life. He was 22 years older than myself and he was able to relate how God used all the things he had gone through in his life to prepare him for the job that God had for him. The man was the leader of the family of churches that I belong to. It was because of his unique background that enabled him to be a leader of leaders and lead 1500 churches through the dangerous waters of extremism.
You have been fearfully and wonderfully made as well. Your life and all the circumstances in it have and are preparing you for the purposes that God has for your life. They are building who you are. You are not inferior or lacking. You have not been disqualified in life to be used for awesome and great things. You may not think that God cares if you touch a child in His name. You may not think that it is a big thing to touch the lives of the poor with a loaf of bread. You may not think that it matters to God whether or not you give a hurting person a hug. However in the eyes of Jesus those types of things are the big things. Not the things that Christian TV glamorize. It is not about big budgets, big followings or big meetings and miracles. It is about giving something as simple as a cup of water in the name of the Lord.
Allow God to speak to your heart personally that you are fearfully and wonderfully made
When we grew up we were all told the old adage that sticks and stones will break your bones but words will never hurt you. Unfortunately that bit of advice is not true. I have healed up from any physical altercations I ever got into in my life. However the words that have been spoken at times have been daggers in my heart that have had a lasting influence in my life. Growing up all my life with a name that rhymes with puke and is the most common name people give their dogs next to Fido, played havoc with my mental image of myself. I would encourage you to take a moment and just think about the fact that God has personally put His hand of workmanship in your life. Eph 2:10 Meditate upon the fact that His works are marvelous. He did not make junk and you are not junk, puke, or a dog. The things that you have gone through in life have prepared you for good works. Just last night I got a letter from a lady that came to my website and read my article about life after divorce. She wrote that as she read the article and my life’s story, tears of healing started to stream down her face. She was given a cup of water in the name of the Lord. I could curse all the things and train wrecks that I have gone through in life, but I choose not to, and because of that, others are touched in ways that only God can design. I have been truly fearfully and wonderfully made and so are you! Let God speak to you in that still small voice and confirm that He has not made you a piece of junk, but that you have value. You are more precious to Him than you can ever realize.
Now that is something to think about!
