New "Christian Poetry" Devotional Released

I am sure you have heard daily devotionals, and devotionals that take you through the Bible in a year ect. But have you ever heard of a Christian poetry devotional? This weekend I had the honor and privilege of interviewing the author of a a new book, Caroline Gavin. The name of the book is Purposeful Pathway, your journey with Jesus. It is a 40 day journey to bring renewal and freshness to your daily devotions. Since I know this lady personally and she has agreed to become part of the Taber’s Truths team covering Christian poetry, I just want to give her a shameless plug and endorse her efforts to bring renewal and greater spiritual vitality to people through her book. Here is the interview with Caroline.

Taber’s Truths exclusive interview with Caroline Gavin, author of Purposeful Pathway.

What led you to write a 40 day devotional poetry book?

The Holy Spirit led me to write this book in order to bring those who are in the Lord closer to His heart…and to lead those who do not know Him to His salvation. Our relationship with Jesus is not to remain stagnant; it is to be rich with wonder, worship, awe, inspiration and love.

My prayer is that the devotional book, Purposeful Pathway: Your Journey with Jesus, will refresh hearts, revive spirits and renew passion. The preface of the book details the reason for the selection of the number forty. In the Scriptures, forty is a period of trial and probation, often followed by renewal and revival. Examples include the forty-day fasts of Jesus, Elijah and Moses. Moses was on Mount Horeb forty days on two separate occasions; forty years the Israelites were in the desert. Forty days Jesus remained with His disciples after His resurrection. These are but a few examples of the number forty in Scripture; it is a number of importance, a number chosen by God.

I chose poetic expression for the devotionals, as I have found that the rhythm and music of poetry can often express what prose cannot. The poetry on the Purposeful Pathway web site (http://PurposefulPathway.com) has elicited wonderful feedback, and the poems have been used in a long list of e-cards to encourage hearts. It seemed, then, God was leading me to create a devotional book in this poetic format. I pray that the Purposeful Pathway poetry stirs hearts, heightens joy, strengthens conviction, deepens love for the Lord and fans the flame of the Spirit.

How long did it take you to write a 40 day Christian poetry devotional?

I began writing the poetry in early 2011, and I compiled the poetry in late January of this year (2012). I started the editing and formatting process in February, and the book was released in March.

When was Purposeful Pathway, your journey with Jesus released?

The book was released March 24th.

What do you expect people to get out of your book?

To answer this question, I would enjoy sharing with you what people are writing about the Journey:

Michael Fenton: “Such beautiful work! Caroline’s poetic words bring you closer and closer to Jesus with each and every word. The daily devotion is a great way to start the day and the message left is something that remains with you all day long. Though times are tough and frustration is all about this inspirational piece of work directs us to focus on what really is important in life. I would recommend this beautiful, inspirational piece of work to all!”

Ann Musico: “I have just begun reading this truly beautiful devotional in these weeks before Easter and I can say from what I’ve read so far, this is a wonderful tool to use in these next 40 days to draw even closer to Jesus. Caroline’s poetry is not only lyrical and beautiful, but deeply spiritual and insightful. You will not only enjoy each day’s poetic devotion, you will carry its truth with you all throughout the day and find you have been focused on Jesus effortlessly! I thoroughly and wholeheartedly recommend you buy one for yourself and one as a gift for someone you love.”

Rob Clinton: “This book is such a magical and elegant masterpiece. Caroline’s poetic creativity is an absolute manifestation of God throughout all of her writing, as she truly brings the love of Christ to life. I’m almost without words, but will definitely be going back and including this as part of my daily inspirational reminders and devotionals. This is must read and devotional for all people of faith. If you don’t know Christ, then let this be your excuse to begin that journey.”

These comments express beautifully my hope and prayer for the fruit of the book. May this forty-day journey bless and inspire hearts, lead souls to Jesus and glorify God our Father.

Check out a sample of Caroline’s poetry on this website.

At the beginning of the year, I asked Caroline to do some Christian love poems for this website for the approaching Valentine’s day holiday. She was kind enough to oblige and they immediately hit the first page of Google. People have came from all over to read her poetry. So I would encourage you to go and check out just how talented this lady is.
