Time is NOW for the Next “Great Awakening”
According to 3 ambitious southern Christians, it will begin on June 20th in Plymouth, Massachusetts This nation has been through three large-scale Christian revivals, or "Great Awakenings"- where large numbers of our citizenry refocused their lives upon Christ and His Word.  The last true "Awakening" happened between 1850 and 1910, or over 100 years ago.  (Some scholars and theologians believe there was a 4th Awakening in the early 1970's, but most followers do not consider that a true "Great" Awakening.)  Given the continual problems in the United States, within a more secular society, are we overdue for another revival? "Yes," states Dan Zimmerle, one of the three Christian men who are spearheading the Plymouth efforts.  Dan, along with Phil Castillo and Robert Kilmarx, has spent considerable time, effort, and also some personal funds in trying to initiate a new 2013 America returning to God. Zimmerle and Castillo have a successful radio talk show called One Nation Unde[more]
Religion in North Korea: How Dwindling Christian Practice Leads to Oppressive Dictatorship
What happens when a nation has less than 2% of its population identified as being "Christian"?  What if that same nation has almost two-thirds of its citizens living as atheist, agnostic, or "irreligious"?  The answer is all over the daily news headlines all across the world:  North Korea, and its maniacal and repressive dictator Kim Jung Un. North Korea and its totalitarian regime is teetering on the brink of war, a potentially nuclear war.  They have provoked much of the region and the world for the past fifty years.  It is currently under the leadership of Kim Jung Un, who followed his like-minded father and grandfather.  At one time North Korea looked very different, especially prior to the Korean War of the early 1950's. Christianity first entered the Korean peninsula in the late 18th century, and expanded significantly by the 1880's.  Both Protestants and Catholics achieved a larger presence as the decades wore on- leading up to the war which further split the north [more]
A Sad, Sad Day for my City of Boston
Earlier this afternoon three bomb explosions (two at the Boston Marathon finish line and one at the JFK Library a couple miles away) rocked an unsuspecting city, and unsuspecting crowds running in and cheering alongside the famous Boston Marathon.  At this writing, two people have been confirmed dead and approximately 100 persons have suffered injuries- some of them critical.  It is unclear who might have done this; there are currently no suspects. What is unsettling and unnerving for me is the fact that this occured essentially in my back yard, or in "my city".  True, I did move a few years ago up to southern New Hampshire, but I still call Boston my home city and I interact with the city on a very regular basis. My beautiful daughter was born in Boston (as was my wife).  When my mother moved here from Europe, she settled in an ethnic part of the city.  I have worked at the famed Boston Garden, and also at the World Trade Center (Boston version).  My aunt was neighbors w[more]
Does America Need the "Christian Liberty Party"?
These days politics is all around us, like it or not.  From the year-long Presidential election of 2012 to the State of the Union address- just last night.  That said, some Christians feel uncomfortable engaging in the political landscape and discussion.  But by doing that are we indirectly steering this nation into the wrong direction?  Should we have more active involvement?  To take it a step further, should we have a viable 3rd political party which is (above all) a "Christian" party?  Would a successful Christian political party (in power) lead to a theocracy? To help answer this I researched a relatively small, but growing, political party called the Christian Liberty Party, or CLP.  I spoke with their National Communications Director, Maynard Eyestone, and here is an excerpt from our conversation: It seems that there are similarities between the CLP and the Constitution Party.  What are the main differences? In our opinion, the most important difference is this:[more]
Today's Widespread Christian Persecution: One Example
Christians are persecuted today in many part of the world.  Here in the United States we are fortunate that we do not have to live our lives under this constant threat.  However, in areas like Egypt and China persecution against Christians is widespread.  There is plenty of information on this situation via different groups such as The Voice of the Martyrs.  One additional group, which focuses on threats against Egyptian Christians (Coptics) is called the Voice of the Copts, and it is led by Dr. Ashraf Ramelah.  Dr. Ramelah has spoken in front of key governmental groups such as the E.U. Parliament and the Italian Parliament. The following is an unedited Q&A Taber's Truths recently had with Dr. Ramelah: What is Pope Theodoros II's role and attitude towards the ongoing strife in Egypt, regarding persecution of Coptics? Pope Theodoros II inherited a great and heavy responsibility. The Orthodox Church has been under attack due to the political involvement of Pope Shendua III an[more]
"Intervarsity"- Another Fantastic Crusade on U.S. Campuses
Recently I met up with a local young woman, Meaghan Graham, who is certainly doing what she can do to bring the message of Christ to the world.  Meaghan is part of the Intervarsity organization, which is a similar group to the Campus Crusade for Christ.  Specifically, I.V. focuses on college students within the Greek system.  The following is a telling excerpt from our conversation: What drew you to wanting to work for Intervarsity?    At the University of Connecticut, where I attended undergrad, I had the opportunity to see God make something out of what seemed like nothing, when InterVarsity planted chapters of Greek InterVarsity and Multiethnic InterVarsity during my junior year. Upon entering my senior year, I so desperately wanted to be part of what I saw God doing at the University of New Hampshire; I genuinely felt called to be a part of God’s work in the fraternities and sororities there. InterVarsity encourages students to minister to whatever community the[more]
The Grinch-like Atheists Who Stole Christmas
I just caught wind of a story that is brewing in Santa Monica Ca. It seems that a group of atheists led by a man named Damon Vix, have stolen from all the fine believing citizen's of Santa Monica, the nativity scenes that have graced the Santa Monica Palisades Park.  It seems that the Grinch-like atheists decided to change their tactics from court battles and peaceful protest, to one of crowding out the nativity scenes. 2 years ago there were 3 groups that asked the city for spots in Palisades Park for holiday displays, last year there were 13 groups asking for spots, 10 of whom were recruited by Damon Vix and the atheists to display such homages to things like the great flying spaghetti monster. Needless to say, many of the city residents did not appreciate these displays of cynicism and ridicule and expressed that displeasure with vandalism. Which brings us to this years story, because of the vandalism and the desire of the city not to get embroiled in a religious discrimination sui[more]
This last election had many evangelical Christians pushing hard for a change in our nation. That didn't happen, at least through politics that is. Even Billy Graham got involved in trying to encourage Christians to vote based on pro family and pro morality principles. Yesterday, Billy released a letter that refocuses his vision on what is the true answer to our nations ills. Just as I said in my article entitled "Who Will Save America?", he has realized that the only way for America to see real change is if the hearts of Americans come back to Jesus. Here is the letter released by the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Billy Graham's Fresh Vision For America From the Desk of Billy Graham All of us care a great deal about our country. The intensity of opinions and feelings during the long political campaign showed the depth of that concern. Now with the votes counted, it is important to remember that whether we are personally pleased with the outcome or not, God wants us [more]
When I got up this morning, I was moved in my heart as to how I could help in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Here I am sitting in Pine Haven Wyoming with blue skies, heat, electricity, and food while people are facing the loss of everything they have. I don't believe in being complacent or just turning a blind eye to those in need. I am sure that you are the same way. So as I was praying for them, I was reminded of the scripture in James that reads James 2:15-17 New King James Version (NKJV) 15 If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, 16 and one of you says to them, “Depart in peace, be warmed and filled,” but you do not give them the things which are needed for the body, what does it profit? 17 Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead. So this morning I want to bring to your attention 3 Christian disaster relief organizations that you can support to help those that have been devastated by Hurricane Sandy. 3 Reputable Christian Disas[more]
Yesterday I shared with you 2 stories of intolerance towards Christians on American university campuses. I encouraged students and parents to stand up against these policies and to stand up for our constitutional rights. Today I had a story in my email of one such group that is doing so. Snow College Sued Over Religious Intolerance The Solid Rock Christian club at Snow College has decided to sue Snow College for violating their constitutional rights to freedom of speech and freedom of assembly. In a complaint filed Monday in the U.S. District Court, the group complains that Snow College has designated them as a "second tier" which is a status lower than other non-religious groups. This designation is based upon the fact that they are a religious group violating anti-discrimination laws. This designation prevents the group from reserving campus facilities without charge, advertising on campus, and receiving funding from a portion of the student fees. All of these benefits are giv[more]
Neurologist Says Heaven Is Real After A Near Death Experience.
Dr. Eban Alexander never expected to have an experience with the afterlife however when He found himself in a coma, he experienced things he never thought were possible. What caused Dr. Alexander's Near Death Experience? In the fall of 2008, he spent 7 days in a coma in which the neocortex part of the brain was inactive. This is what is basically called brain dead and was being kept alive by life support. He had contracted a very rare disease bacterial meningitis that usually attacks newborn babies. E. Coli bacteria had somehow penetrated his cerebrospinal fluid. His prognosis was worse than grim. His chance of survival beyond anything other than a vegetative state were very low and soon sank to near impossible. For seven days he lay in a coma with his body and higher order brain functions totally non-existant.  It was not until his doctors were deciding whether or not to discontinue life support 7 days later that his eyes popped open. Dr. Alexander admits that although he consi[more]
We have an epidemic in our country. It is an epidemic of ignorance. Jersey City New Jersey has became the latest city to show signs that they have caught this disease. Christian's Evangelizing Called "Inciting Residents" by Jersey City Police Chief I came across this story on the website NJ.com. It is the story of how members of a church from the suburbs of Jersey City, Wayne NJ, were ticketed for practicing their constitutionally protected 1st amendment rights. The incident took place in Journal Square over the weekend. According to Tom Comey, ( I can't help but think his last name should be spelled Commie.) "The individuals issued summonses in this matter traveled to Jersey City from various parts of New Jersey to spread their message and incite many of our residents," He further added, which sounds like a disclaimer to me, "We respect and defend the rights of any individuals to gather and protest as long as it is done within the confines of the law," Who were these horrible [more]
It wasn't until one lady who wasn't afraid to stand up against city hall and stand up for her religious liberties, that the City of Phoenix decided to drop a ban against Christians handing out bottles of water at public events. As I have covered many times on this website, city and town councils are violating the religious liberties of people all across our nation, the City of Phoenix being a major offender in this issue as was evidenced by what happened to Michael Salman. One Woman Refuses To Bow To Tyranny Dana Crow-Smith was the courageous lady that did not bow her knee to the edicts of tyranny. The lady was trying to follow the teachings of Jesus by doing small acts of kindness and giving away bottles of water to people at the "First Friday" festival when the temperatures were up to 112 degrees. She was ordered to stop by a City Inspector called a "Neighborhood Preservation Inspector", that told her she was required to get a vendor's permit. This not only violated her f[more]
The momentum is growing among Christian businesses, religious institutions and other Christian organizations in suing the federal government over the abortion pill mandate that is part of Obamacare. The latest to join the legal fray is Tyndale House Publishers. Just a few days ago Biola University also announced they were going to sue the federal government over this requirement. Who is Tyndale House Publishers and Why are They Suing The Federal Government? Tyndale House's suit was filed at U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia in a filing labeled Tyndale House Publishers v. Sebelius.  Tyndale House is one of the largest privately owned Christian publishers of books and Bibles in the nation. The law group Alliance Defending Freedom is representing Tyndale house along with Biola University, Grace College and Seminary, Geneva College, The Seneca Hardwood Lumber Company, Louisiana College, and Hercules Industries who are all involved in federal lawsuits over this abort[more]
Yale University has followed in the footsteps of Vanderbuilt University in using their anti-discrimination policy to effectively discriminate against Christians. Instead of it being a Christian student group meeting on campus as in the Vanderbuilt case, this time it is a fraternity. The Beta Upsilon Chi (BYX) applied to be recognized as an official fraternity to Yale University but is facing opposition from the school because it only accepts male students who  believe in Jesus. Here is the news story from WFSB Channel 3 Yale University May Use Anti-Discrimination Rule To Violate Freedom Of Religion Rights WFSB Channel 3 What is the Yale University Policy on Discrimination? According to the Undergraduate Regulations, “undergraduate organizations are expected to adhere to the University’s equal opportunity policies.” Yale’s equal opportunity statement prohibits the University from discriminating on the basis of an individual's sex, race, color, religion, age, disab[more]
10,000 Christians gathered in Philidelphia to pray for our nation this weekend. What was called the "America For Jesus" rally drew Christians from across the nation to pray for one thing; Revival! More and more people are starting to understand that the solution to America's problems is not going to come from the political arena, but instead is going to come from the spiritual arena. As Billy Graham once stated "To get nations back on their feet, we must first get down on our knees". No truer words have been spoken. America for Jesus was not about Politics This event was not about politics. There were very few references made to Mitt Romney or Barack Obama. One guy interrupted Pat Robertson in his speech trying to put a plug in for Mitt Romney and was told. "shut your mouth" because "this is not political." Robertson also told the man he was disrespecting the prayer. The most notable quote by Robertson in his speech was this line which I totally agree with although many time[more]
3 Christian bloggers were sentenced yesterday to 12, 10, and 4 years in prison respectively. What was their crime you may ask? They were charged with spreading anti-government propaganda. They were the founding members of what they called the "Free Journalists Club" which was not officially recognized by the government. Nguyen Van Hai, Marie Ta Phong Tan, and Phan Thanh Hai along with 18 other people were reportedly taken into custody according to local bloggers. Dang Thi Kim Lieung, mother of Marie Ta Phong Tan, self-immolated and died on July 30 in protest over her daughter’s continued detention. It seems like the government was concerned about the political fallout of this trial and sentence that they felt the need to surround the courthouse with 400 security officials that kept the crowds away and confiscated camera's and cell phones. The U.S. Embassy criticized the sentencing of these Christian bloggers, although the Obama administration is doing nothing about religi[more]
Is America Becoming Intolerant Towards Religion?
Our country was primarily founded by Protestants that were fleeing religious persecution and intolerance towards their faith. The Pilgrims, Quakers, Mennonites, Moravians, and Baptists all fled Europe for the promise to practice their faith in peace in America. Today we do not live in the same America. I feel like I have been shouting in the wind on this website about the rise of intolerance towards religion and Christians in this country. It almost seems like the people of this country are like proverbial frogs in a kettle while the heat is being turned up. I have done stories about people like Michael Salman who was imprisoned over zoning laws, and Holly Springs Miss banning churches from the downtown area, and most recently the story of the Christians who were arrested for preaching on Bourbon street in New Orleans. Do you know what type of comments I get on those stories? I get a bunch of people who try to justify the government violation of our first amendment rights to fre[more]
Grand Canyon University was the recipient of a 20 million dollar gift from Steve Green, owner of the hobby retail chain called Hobby Lobby. In a story I covered a couple of months ago, Steve Green made it public that he wanted to give D.L. Moody's Northfield Seminary in Northfield MA. away for free to a ministry that could prove they could maintain and use it according to D.L. Moody's original vision. Why Did Grand Canyon University Receive This Gift? Over 100 different organizations expressed interest in the Northfield campus. These organizations ranged from culinary schools, TV ministries (of course! LOL) and many others. It was eventually narrowed down to either Grand Canyon University and the North American Missions Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. After looking at what it takes to maintain and run the Northfield seminary, including 1 million dollars in utility costs, the Missions Board of the Southern Baptist Convention decided that it was just not feasible to use [more]
As I reported a few days ago, the Christian owned craft store Hobby Lobby has came under attack from Pro Abortion Activists because of their opposition to the federal mandate in Obamacare that requires businesses to provide what is commonly called the "morning after pill. This pill essentially prevents a fertilized egg to implant itself on the uterine wall thus aborting the spark of life. Although they have received support from Pro Life advocates, they are facing boycotts from these Pro Abortion groups. So once again we need to rise up and support those that are standing up for religious liberties in this country. Sources citing the Hobby Lobby Boycott The Examiner reports that these groups are organizing a boycott and making crazy claims that Hobby Lobby wants to deny basic health care and if you can believe it, "cancer treatments" to it's employees. Once again we see these groups engaging in dishonest rhetoric rather than addressing the issues. According to the Examiner the[more]
