Can One Prayer Make a Difference? | Thoughts as I Go to the National Day of Prayer Gathering in Pine Haven
Yours Truly has been asked to open our community’s national day of prayer ceremony. The formal preacher talk word used is “invocation”. I am honored to do so. So as I sit here and contemplate what I will be doing at noon today, the thought crossed my mind. Can one prayer actually accomplish anything? I know that our nation is in desperate need of revival. That people once again need to turn from their self reliance and self centeredness, and put their trust in the only One who never changes. The One who is the anchor to the eternal. I know the need. But can 1 prayer do anything? Will it change anything or is it futile?
So many times, the body of Christ puts it’s trust in good things but not the best thing. We put our trust in our methods, our knowledge, or music or our experience. I think God is not going to allow us once again to do it “our way” I think that if this nation is going to have another revival, it will be strictly because of 1 person and 1 prayer multiplied many times over, across this nation. It may be uttered with different words. It may take different forms, but I believe it will sound something like this.
2 Chronicles 7:14 (New Living Translation)
14 Then if my people who are called by my name will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sins and restore their land.
They will be prayers spoken in humility, desiring to know God more, and recognizing how sinful we really are. Lord this day on the National day of prayer, I pray, that this middle aged balding man who gets way to big for his britches at times, would be able to get to know you more, know what makes you tick, know your heart and your passion. I am fully aware Lord that I don’t come close to the model you shared with us in the person of Jesus. I am asking you to do nothing other than change me.
In the name of Jesus I pray
Amen.
