Shall We Gather at the River?
There are 3 different categories of baptism Bible verses. There are those that talk about being baptized into the body of Christ, those that talk about the baptism in the Holy Spirit, and those that talk about water baptism. Today I am going to give you a list of Bible verses about baptism that talk about water baptism. Water baptism is an important step in the life of every believer. As you will see by these baptism Bible verses, it is something that every believer is commanded to do. It is the way given by God to identify ourselves publicly as believers in Jesus. It is symbolic of the work that Jesus did for us in changing our hearts from being black with sin to white as snow before Him. It is an outward representation of the death and burial of our old nature, and the resurrection of our life with a new nature. It symbolizes the death of the way we used to be, and publicly declares that we are born again with a new life in Christ. So take a look with me at these baptism Bible verses and if you have not yet been baptized, be encouraged to go ahead and do so as an act of celebration and obedience to what God has done in your life.
Water Baptism Bible Verses
Scripture verses about baptism in the gospels.
The Baptism of Jesus
13 Then Jesus went from Galilee to the Jordan River to be baptized by John. 14 But John tried to talk him out of it. “I am the one who needs to be baptized by you,” he said, “so why are you coming to me?”
15 But Jesus said, “It should be done, for we must carry out all that God requires.” So John agreed to baptize him.
16 After his baptism, as Jesus came up out of the water, the heavens were opened and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and settling on him. 17 And a voice from heaven said, “This is my dearly loved Son, who brings me great joy.”
But the Pharisees and experts in religious law rejected God’s plan for them, for they had refused John’s baptism.
I baptize you with water, but he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit!”
Anyone who believes and is baptized will be saved. But anyone who refuses to believe will be condemned.
1 Jesus knew the Pharisees had heard that he was baptizing and making more disciples than John 2 (though Jesus himself didn’t baptize them—his disciples did). 3 So he left Judea and returned to Galilee.
Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.
