1 John 4:8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.
The Bible Verse God is Love
The scripture verse God is love is one that many people know. It is used many times and in many situations but is the way it is used always correct?
Many people use it to justify certain feelings they have at a particular moment and say it must be of God because God is love. Others use it to justify that a loving God could not discipline people or allow them to go to hell. Neither of these interpretations are correct.
The Bible always interprets itself. It gives explanation for what a verse means. The Apostle John, who wrote this Bible verse God is love, explains more fully what He is talking about.

What does the Bible verse God is love mean?
1 John 4:7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. 8He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. 9 In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
The type of love that John is talking about is not the gushy squishy warm all over feeling of love but sacrificial love. Jesus was sent to the cross out of love for us. So if you want to know what true love is, then look to Jesus. He was the ultimate example of God’s type of love.
1 John 3:16 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
True love lays down it’s life. It does not base what it does on feelings because even Jesus didn’t feel like laying down His life even though He did so. So when the Bible says God is love, it does not mean that God and love are exactly synonymous but instead it means that God is the ultimate example of love through Jesus Christ.
So the question remains, have you received the love of God by accepting the gift of love that He provided in Jesus? Have you accepted His love by accepting Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? According to the book of revelation it is not ok to add or take away from any part of the Bible. God is love PERIOD. It is the living word of God. The Bible speaks to each individuals heart, secretly. It is not your job to define what and what not kinds of Love God is or is not. Just think about it before you try and rewrite the Bible. The bible is GOOD enough. It is PERFECT! Who are you to add to it?

It has nothing to do with explaining the scriptures which is what I did, it has to do with not adding extra books or writings to the Bible. If it did, then you would be guilty of the same thing.
